Terms of use

Version 5. Last updated: Oct 18, 2026

These terms govern your use of AskGenealogy at askgenealogy.com and its connection to AI assistants. The service is provided by JUNO WOZ (CNPJ 58.515.433/0001-60), operated by Juan Gouvêa in Brazil (“we”). By creating an account or by using the service through an AI assistant, you accept these terms.

The service

AskGenealogy is a research workspace. You upload family trees as GEDCOM files. Your AI assistant can then search them, analyze them and keep research notes. It can also search a few open sources and build search links for record sites. Ask your tree is a chat in your account that does the same work with an AI model, for people who do not use an AI assistant. The service has a free plan and paid plans. See “Plans and payments” below. The service is in beta. We can change it, limit it or stop it. We work to keep it available, but we do not promise a level of availability.

The service does not give professional genealogical, legal or medical advice. Tree data and AI answers can be wrong. They are leads, not proof. You are responsible for checking conclusions against the records.

Who can use it

You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian allows you to use the service and agrees to any payment.

Your account

You sign in with a code sent to your email address. Keep access to that mailbox secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us at inbox@askgenealogy.com if you think someone else used it.

Your content

You keep all rights in the files and notes you upload or write. You give us a limited license to store, process and display them, and to send them to your AI assistant and to the people you share them with, only to run the service for you. When you use Ask your tree, the license also covers sending your questions and the data that the tools return to Anthropic, only to answer you.

You confirm that you have the right to upload your content and to share it with the people you invite. This applies to data about other people, living or dead. You are also responsible for the terms of the site or program from which you exported the data.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • upload data that you have no right to share, including data you took from a service in breach of its terms;
  • use the service to harass, stalk, threaten or expose a living person, or to find a person who does not want to be found;
  • scrape the service, or use it to collect data in bulk from other sites;
  • try to read another user’s data, or to bypass access controls, limits or security;
  • send malware or content that breaks the law;
  • overload the service, avoid its rate limits or the limits of a plan, or send automated or bulk requests to Ask your tree;
  • use the service to decide on credit, employment, insurance or housing for any person.

Plans and payments

The service has a free plan (Free) and paid plans (Plus and Pro). The connection to your AI assistant works on every plan. The plans differ in limits, such as the number of trees, the number of people, the stored data, the projects, the members of a project and the monthly answers in Ask your tree. The limits and the prices are on the pricing page.

  • Prices. Each paid plan has a monthly price and a yearly price, in US dollars or Brazilian reais. The price you see at checkout, before you pay, is the price you pay. We can change the price of a plan. A new price applies from your next renewal, and we tell you by email at least 30 days before it.
  • Payment. Stripe processes the payments. We never see your card number.
  • Renewal. A paid plan renews by itself at the end of each period, monthly or yearly, at the price in force, until you cancel. Checkout shows the period and the date of the next charge.
  • Cancellation. You can cancel at any time in the billing portal, which you open from your account. You keep the plan until the end of the period you paid for, and we do not charge you again.
  • Refund. Write to inbox@askgenealogy.com within 14 days of your first payment for a plan, and we refund the full amount to the payment method you used. After those 14 days we do not refund a period that has started, but you can cancel to stop the next renewal. If we charge you by mistake, we refund the charge. This does not limit your rights under consumer law.
  • Taxes. Checkout shows the total, with any tax that applies to you, before you pay. You are responsible for any tax that the law puts on you and that is not collected at checkout.
  • Failed payment. If a payment fails, Stripe tries again. Your plan stays active for a grace period of 7 days. After that, your account returns to the free plan.
  • Disputes. If you dispute a charge with your card issuer before you write to us, we can suspend the paid plan until the dispute is resolved.
  • Promotions. A promotion code follows the conditions shown with it.
  • Downgrade. When a paid plan ends, or you move to a lower plan, we do not delete your data. If your data is over the limits of the new plan, you can still read, export and delete everything. We refuse only a new addition that would go over a limit, such as a new tree, a new upload or a new member, until you are back under the limit.

AI answers and Ask your tree

AI models, in your assistant and in Ask your tree, can state wrong facts, invent details and misread a record. You must check every answer against the records before you rely on it, publish it or share it. An answer is a lead, not proof, and it is not professional advice.

Ask your tree uses a model from Anthropic. To answer, it reads your trees and projects with the same read-only tools your assistant uses, and it sends your question and what the tools return to Anthropic. The privacy policy explains what Anthropic receives and keeps. The number of answers you get each month depends on your plan. We can lower or pause the number of answers to control cost or to stop abuse.

Projects and sharing

The owner of a project decides who joins and can remove any tree from the project. Editors can add trees they own and remove their own trees. An invite link works for anyone who holds it until it expires or reaches its use limit. Treat it like a password. Members can read the trees and entries of the project according to their role, including the trees that editors add, and what a person has seen cannot be taken back. Owners are responsible for what they share and with whom. Members must respect the privacy of the people in the trees.

AI assistants and other services

You use ChatGPT, Claude and similar assistants under their own terms. We do not control them or their answers. Open sources and record sites have their own terms. Payments run on Stripe, and Ask your tree runs on a model from Anthropic. Their terms apply to the parts they provide. AskGenealogy is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI, Anthropic, Stripe, FamilySearch, Ancestry, MyHeritage, Geni, WikiTree or any archive. Their names belong to their owners.

Suspension and ending

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk. If we end the service, we will try to give at least 30 days’ notice by email and a way to export your data, and we will refund the unused part of any period you paid for.

No warranty and limits on liability

The service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability for the service is limited to the amount you paid for it in the 12 months before the event, which is zero for the free plan. These limits do not apply where the law does not allow them. Your rights under Brazilian consumer law are not affected.

Software

These terms govern the hosted service.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Brazil. Write to us first at inbox@askgenealogy.com so that we can try to solve a problem together.

Changes

When we change these terms, we update the version and the date above. If you keep using the service after a change, you accept the new terms. For a material change we notify account holders by email.
