Questions

Does it replace my tree software?
No. It works beside it. You export a GEDCOM file, AskGenealogy reads it, and your tree in Ancestry, MyHeritage, Gramps or any other tool stays as it is.
What is a GEDCOM file?
It is the standard file for a family tree. Ancestry, MyHeritage, Geni, Gramps, RootsMagic and most other sites and programs can export one. It ends in .ged, .gedcom or .zip.
Can I trust the answers?
Treat them as leads. Answers show their sources so you can check them, and a family tree is a lead, not proof. It searches the open sources listed above and builds search links for other record sites. It does not search every archive.
Do I need a paid Claude or ChatGPT plan?
AskGenealogy is free. Claude and ChatGPT decide which of their plans can add connectors, so check your plan if you do not see the option.
Is my research private?
Yes. Projects and trees are private to you and to the people you invite. Living people stay private. You can export or delete everything at any time.
What about FamilySearch?
FamilySearch is coming soon. We are waiting for FamilySearch approval. Until then, AskGenealogy fetches nothing from it.
